Dr. Xin Zhang currently serves as an associate professor at the Southern University of Science and Technology, the PI of the Structural Dynamics and Impact Laboratory, and a recipient of the National Youth Talent Program (Outstanding Young Talent). He obtained his bachelor's and master's degrees from the Education Experimental College (Honors College) and the School of Aeronautics of Northwestern Polytechnical University, respectively. He graduated from the Interdisciplinary Graduate School of Nanyang Technological University in Singapore with a PhD, and subsequently continued his postdoctoral research at the School of Civil and Environment Engineering and the Energy Research Institute of Nanyang Technological University. His primary research interests include solid mechanics, impact dynamics, mechanical properties of fiber-reinforced composites, multifunctional composites, energy-absorbing materials and structural design, and additive manufacturing.
He has published over 70 SCI journal papers, including 50 papers as the first author or corresponding author in prestigious journals such as J Mech Phys Solids, Adv Funct Mater, Adv Science, Compos Sci Technol, Int J Mech Sci, Int J Impact Eng, Carbon, and Compos Part A & Part B. He has been awarded titles such as "Pearl River Talent" Youth Top Talent in Guangdong Province, Fellow of the International Advanced Materials Association (Sweden), and Shenzhen Overseas High-level Talent. He has led multiple longitudinal projects including the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) Youth Program Class B, NSFC General Program, national key research and development sub-projects, Guangdong Provincial Key Fields Special Projects, and Shenzhen Fund General Program, as well as multiple horizontal projects from enterprises such as Huawei. He has participated in key projects in Shenzhen and the construction of key laboratories in Shenzhen. He serves as an editorial board member, special advisory board member, young editorial board member, and guest editor for multiple journals including JMST, IJSNM, Experimental Mechanics, etc. He is the secretary-general of the History and Methodology Committee of the Chinese Mechanical Society, a member of the Experimental Technology Committee of Explosion Mechanics, and a committee member of the Polymer Matrix Composites Branch, Composites Additive Manufacturing Committee, and Academic Exchange Working Committee of the Chinese Composites Society. He is also a young committee member of the International Bionics Engineering Society, a member of the Guangdong Provincial Young Scientists Association, and a member of international academic organizations such as the Royal Aeronautical Society (RAeS) and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME).
